1. New Credit Management Professionals and Stakeholders Join NICA as Institute Reinforces Ethical Credit Economy Practice

The National Institute of Credit Administration (NICA), chartered, has inducted new members into its professional membership cadre at a virtual induction ceremony held on Thursday, 27 August 2026.

The ceremony, which brought together newly inducted members and distinguished stakeholder leaders professionals from across different sectors, was presided over by the President/Chairman of NICA Governing Council, Dr. (Mrs.) Markie Idowu, FICA.

The Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of NICA, Prof. Chris Onalo, FICA, and the Vice President of the Institute, Prof. Felix V. Amieyeofori, were also present at the ceremony.

The Master of Ceremony, Faka Emmanuella Uwamire, who welcomed participants and coordinated the proceedings, anchored the event. Newly admitted members introduced themselves according to their membership categories, namely Fellows (FICA), Members (MICA), and Associates (AICA), stating their full names, current designation and organisations at which they work.

In her address, the President and Chairman of Council, Dr. (Mrs.) Markie Idowu, congratulated the newly inducted members and charged them to uphold the ethics, values and professional standards of the Institute. She emphasised the importance of responsible credit management and the role of credit professionals in strengthening Nigeria’s credit economy.

“To our newly inducted members, whether as Fellows, Members, or Associates, your journey with NICA begins with the Mandatory Credit Management Academic Improvement Programme (MCMAIP). This programme is designed to deepen your expertise and strengthen your professional competence. Upon completion, you will be better equipped to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of credit management both locally and globally.

Beyond technical competence, we place strong emphasis on ethics and professional conduct. Our Code of Ethics and Bye Laws are not just guidelines—they are the foundation upon which our credibility and reputation stand. NICA remains resolute in ensuring strict compliance, as we continue to uphold the integrity of the profession.

I am also pleased to inform our distinguished Fellows that, following the recommendation of the Board of Fellows, Council has approved an uncapped Life Membership. This allows Fellows to transition from annual subscriptions to a one-time fee of ₦500,000, securing lifelong recognition, eliminating recurring dues, and granting uninterrupted access to all privileges of the Institute. This initiative is not driven by revenue, but by respect—honouring legacy, reducing administrative burden, and reinforcing fellowship as a lifelong commitment.

Dear Fellows, upon your induction today, you shall automatically become a member of the Institute’s Board of Fellows (BOF). The principal activity of the BOF is essentially to assist, influence and help government and economic development policy makers with freshly sourced quarterly economic growth roadmap for the development of Nigerian economy.

Distinguished inductees, today marks not just your admission into a professional body, but your entry into a community of responsibility, excellence, and impact.

As we move forward, let us not only build a stronger credit profession but also shape a stronger economy for Nigeria and generations to come. The future of credit management is in our hands—and together, we will elevate it to global prominence”.

The Registrar/CEO, Prof. Chris Onalo, FICA, also welcomed the new members and highlighted the statutory and professional responsibilities of NICA in developing a sound credit culture in Nigeria. He encouraged the inductees to take advantage of the Institute’s professional development opportunities and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the nation’s credit economy.

The Vice President, Prof. Felix V. Amieyeofori, further congratulated the inductees and urged them to demonstrate professionalism, integrity and competence in their respective fields.

The legal segment of the induction was handled by Odueso Oluwafemi, who provided the newly inducted members with guidance on their professional responsibilities, ethical obligations and the importance of compliance with relevant laws and regulations governing credit administration.

The ceremony also featured vote of thanks from distinguished representatives, including Professor Ojo Emmanuel Ademola, Chairperson, Professor Ademola Ojo Emmanuel Foundation, and Dr. Fatumata Soukouna Coker, Chairman, Board of Directors, CreditRegistry Plc and Afrinvest Limited, representing the male and female categories respectively.

The representatives encouraged the inductees to embrace continuous learning, professionalism and ethical conduct, while making meaningful contributions to the development of Nigeria’s credit ecosystem.

The newly inducted members were thereafter formally admitted into the membership of the National Institute of Credit Administration (NICA), chartered, with a charge to uphold the dignity of the profession and contribute to the advancement of credit management profession in Nigeria.

The induction ceremony concluded with congratulations to the new members and a renewed call for them to become active contributors to the Institute’s vision of building a robust, responsible and sustainable credit economy in Nigeria.
