3. Training Opening Remark By Prof. Chris Onalo, NICA Registrar/CEO

3. Training Opening Remark By Prof. Chris Onalo, NICA Registrar/CEO

Protocol observed

– Good morning distinguished guests.

Today we are not just launching a program. We are launching a movement to put economic power directly into the hands of Nigerians – Women, youth, owners of MSMEs, and Graduates.

Credit is the oxygen of any thriving economy. Without it, ideas die. With it, businesses grow, jobs are created, and families move from surviving to thriving.

  • Financial inclusion is national security. When more Nigerians have access to credit, we reduce poverty, we shrink the informal economy, and we expand our tax base to build roads, schools, and hospitals.
  • The FG-NICA partnership is about dignity. We are moving millions of Nigerians from being “unbanked and unserved” to being “banked, credit-ready, and investable.

We are building 4 kinds of Nigerians:

  1. Credit-Ready People – those who understand how credit works and can access it responsibly.
  2. Creditworthy People – those with the character, data, and records to be trusted with capital.
  3. Credit-Managed People – those who borrow wisely, repay promptly, and use credit to build wealth, not debt.
  4. Credit Managers – the trained professionals who design, administer, and safeguard credit systems that grow our economy.
  • This is not charity. This is capacity.

When a market woman gets credit to buy stock in bulk, when a farmer gets credit for inputs, when an MSME gets credit to scale – that is GDP growth in real time.

  • NICA’s role is clear:

To professionalize credit administration management in Nigeria. To ensure that every naira lent is lent well, managed well, and repaid well.

  • The Federal Government’s vision is clear:

No Nigerian should be left behind because they lack access to fair credit.

Ladies and gentlemen,

A nation is only as strong as the financial strength of its people.

Today, through the FG-NICA Credit and Financial Inclusion Free Training Program, the government is doing more than giving out loans. We are giving hope.

We are giving opportunity. We are giving Nigerians the tools to write their own success stories.

Let us raise a generation of Nigerians who are credit-ready in knowledge, creditworthy in character, credit-managed in practice, and led by Credit Managers in professionalism. Because when our people have access to credit, they don’t just consume. They produce.

When they are financially included, they don’t just survive. They build.

And when they build, Nigeria rises.

This is the future we are creating together here today.

This is the economy we are financing together.

This is the Nigeria we believe in.

Our credit economy now have a complete credit ecosystem: Users →  Character  →  Behavior →

Professionals

Thank you, and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
