The Presidency has commenced registration for a nationwide training programme aimed at equipping 10 million Nigerians with financial inclusion and literacy skills, marking a major step in the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deepen economic participation across the country.
The programme was formally flagged off by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a virtual meeting of the Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion (PreCEFI). He was represented by the Special Adviser to the President on Economic Affairs, Tope Kolade Fasua.
Designed to target women and youths in particular, the initiative seeks to equip participants with essential financial literacy, investment knowledge, and digital competencies required for sustainable wealth creation and improved economic inclusion.
The registration process is being coordinated by WAWUAfrica, alongside development partners such as the World Bank, African Union (AU), Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), among others.
Speaking on the initiative, Shettima described it as a transformative programme with the potential to deliver impact beyond Nigeria, noting that it would also cover a wide range of capacity-building
areas including digital literacy, IT, economic literacy, healthcare, creative industries, entrepreneurship, vocational skills, hospitality, and tourism.
He commended WAWUAfrica and other partners for their collaboration, expressing optimism that the programme would continue to expand through strategic partnerships to achieve maximum impact.
In his remarks, the Technical Adviser to the President on Economic and Financial Inclusion, Nurudeen Zauro, emphasised that the training is completely free and cautioned Nigerians against fraudulent individuals who may attempt to charge fees. He urged prospective participants to ensure they register only through the official portal.
The initiative builds on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in February 2026 between PreCEFI and six professional bodies mandated to design the training curriculum, certification pathways, digital skills programmes, and mentorship platforms. These include the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS), National Institute of Credit Administration (NICA), Chartered Risk Management Institute (CRMI), and the Nigeria Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (NIIE).
With a strong focus on inclusion, transparency, and accessibility, stakeholders have pledged to ensure that the programme delivers practical and impactful knowledge that will enhance financial inclusion and strengthen Nigeria’s economic landscape.
